Free Guided Walks September & October 2018

DLR CoCo - SUMMER OF HERITAGE - EVENTS

As part of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s Summer of Heritage programme the DMP are hosting walks guided by DMP Volunteer Rangers every Sunday from July 8th to September 2nd.  The walks start at 11:00 from Barnaslingan car-park. Sunday 2nd September, Barnaslingan & Carrickgollogan Walk,

DLR Summer of Heritage Event

(Ref for booking – this event is fully booked)

Description: This guided walk will take in the Scalp view-point, the Lead Mines Chimney and Carrickgollogan summit.  It is a moderate walk on forest roads and trails, a small section of County road and a gravel track leading to Carrickgollogan summit. 

Date: Sunday 2nd September at 11:00.

Duration: 2 hours.

Degree of difficulty: Moderate. 

Bring:  walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, water and a snack.

Meeting point:  Barnaslingan car-park at 11:00 Directions.

Sunday 9th September, DMW Hike, Tallaght to Shankill.

(Ref for booking – this event is fully booked) 

Description: A strenuous linear hike along the full route of the Dublin Mountains Way from Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght to Shankill.  To sign up for this hike you will be required to complete one of the DMP Volunteer Ranger led training hikes on August 6th, 12th or 25th.  Places on the DMW hike are limited, if the hike is oversubscribed preference will be given to people who have completed more than one of the training hikes.  

Date: Sunday 9th September at 10:00

Length: 42.6km

Elevation Gain: 875m approximately

Degree of difficulty: Strenuous

Duration: 10-10.5  hours

Meeting Point: Sean Walsh Park, Tallaght at the Dublin Mountains Way trail head at 09:30

This is a public transport friendly hike, see www.dublinbus.ie  for Dublin Bus services to Tallaght or www.Luas.ie for Luas Red-Line services to Tallaght. Returning from Shankill check www.dublinbus.ie  for Dublin Bus services or www.irishrail.ie for DART services.

Sunday 16th September, Hike Glencullen -Three Rock-Two Rock and return

(Ref for booking - Glencullen to Two Rock Hike)

Description: A moderate hike starting in The Glencullen Adventure Park (The GAP) overflow car park and travelling along the new section of  the DMW to Ballyedmonduff and onto Three Rock.  The walk will then head along the Wicklow Way and continue onto Two Rock Mountain before returning to the GAP. There will be a lunch stop along the way and fingers crossed fine views of both the city and local mountains.  Please bring walking poles if you have them and a tasty packed lunch. Information will be given on different Dublin Mountains Partnership walks and equipment that you should bring to enjoy the walks.

Date: Sunday 16th September at 11:00.

Length: 10.5 Km.

Duration: 3.5 hrs.

Meeting point: The GAP overflow car park at 11:00.

Degree of difficulty: Moderate.

Bring: Good walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, hot drink, water and food.

Sunday 30th September - Cruagh & Massy’s Wood Loop  - dog friendly walk

 (Reference for booking – Cruagh & Massy’s Wood Loop – dog friendly walk)

Description:  A lovely walk from Cruagh Forest car-park down to Massy’s Estate via Cruagh bridge for a loop around the woodland estate before returning to Cruagh forest, there will be an option to hike up onto Cruagh Mountain via the mountain access route.  While this hike is dog friendly you don’t need a dog to join.  Dogs will be required to be on leashes for the full duration of the walk. People bringing dogs on the hike are reminded to carry bags to pick up any doggy doo and bring back home for disposal.

Length: 10km approximately

Duration: 3.5 hours

Degree of difficulty: Moderate

Meeting Point: Cruagh Car Park at 11:00

Note – dogs on leads are welcome on this hike, anyone who does not feel comfortable around dogs might be better choosing one of the other DMP walks this month which don’t allow dogs.

Description: Back by popular demand, what was the DLRCoCo Summer of Heritage Dublin Mountains Walk, this free DMP Volunteer Ranger led guided walk will at a gentle pace take in the Scalp view-point, the Lead Mines Chimney and Carrickgollogan summit.  It is a moderate walk on forest roads and trails, a small section of County road and a gravel track leading to Carrickgollogan summit. 

Date: Sunday 7th October at 11:00.

Duration: 2 hours.

Distance: 4.5km approximately.

Degree of difficulty: Moderate. 

Bring:  walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, water and a snack.

Meeting point:  Barnaslingan car-park at 11:00 Directions.
