Sunday 4th November 2018, Litter Pick in Hell Fire Club Forest

 

(Ref for booking – Hell Fire Litter Pick)  

Description: A litter pick event in Hell Fire Club forest.  The following litter picking materials will be provided: litter pickers, plastic bags, gloves to keep your hands safe and clean.

Date: Sunday 4th November at 10:00.

Duration: 2 hrs.

Distance: 1-4 km approximately

Degree of difficulty: easy-moderate. 

Bring:  Walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, hot drink and a snack.

Meeting point:  Hell Fire Club Forest car-park at 10:00. Directions

Saturday 10th November, Tibradden to Glencree

(Reference for Booking – Glencree)

Description: A strenuous walk from Tibradden Wood/Pine Forest car park into Cruagh Wood, up the boardwalk/mountain access route to Cruagh Mountain, on to Glendoo Mountain before descending onto the Military Road in the Featherbeds.  From there we visit the German War Cemetery and the old military barracks in Glencree, now the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation.  Here we can enjoy our packed lunch or avail of lunch in the Armoury Café in the Centre.  Return via the Featherbeds, Cruagh Wood and back to Tibradden.

This walk is only recommended for walkers with a reasonable level of experience.  You will traverse boggy mountain tops and cross a stream on rocks.  Unless you are capable of these activities, this walk is not for you. 

Date: Saturday 10th November.

Meeting point: Tibradden car park at 10:00.  Please arrive 15 minutes early for registration.  Directions

Duration: 5½ hrs.

SORRY - NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THIS WALK

Degree of difficulty: Challenging & Strenuous, with river and bog hazards.

Bring: Good walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, hot drink, water and food.  Alternatively, food may be purchased in the Armoury Café Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in Glencree.  Runners are not an acceptable form of footwear for this hike– boots should cover/protect ankles.  Gaiters are recommended.

Sunday 11th November 2018, Basic Map Reading - Ticknock

(Ref for booking – Basic Map Reading Course)  

Description: An introduction to basic map reading while walking through Ticknock forest. You will be introduced to basic navigation skills, map reading, navigation, feature recognition and route selection.  Along the way information will also be given on DMP walks and equipment that you should bring to enjoy the walks.

Date: Sunday 11th November at 11:00.

Duration: 3 hours.

Distance: 2-4 km approximately

Degree of difficulty: moderate. 

Bring:  Walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, hot drink and a snack.  Compass Silva Type 4 and Map DMP 1:25,000 if you have them.

Meeting point:  Ticknock upper car-park beside the map board at 11:00.
