DLR Summer of Heritage Walk Series at Carrickgollogan Wood

 

Come join us for a series of morning and evening walks during July and August at Coillte's Carrickgollogan Wood.

 

Booking is via Eventbrite.

 

Walk Dates:

August 13th at 6PM,

August 27th at 11AM.

Please don't book unless you are certain you can attend.

 

A gently paced walk following the Lead Mines Way at Coillte’s Carrickgollogan Wood led by the Dublin Mountains Partnership Volunteer Rangers. The route will also take in the summit of Carrickgollogan from where, on a clear day, there is a 360o view. Along the way the DMP Volunteer Rangers will share their knowledge of the heritage and geological features of the site, which have been wonderfully captured in a dlr arts Nature and Place Commission Skywalkers by Méadhbh O’Connor. The Volunteer Rangers will also talk about Coillte’s Dublin Mountains Makeover project.

Please note the route is on gravel trails.

Length: 2.5 km approx.

Duration: Walk 1.5 to 1.75 hours approx.

Degree of difficulty: Moderate.

Bring: Sturdy footwear, rain jacket, sun hat, warm clothes, drink and snack.

Meeting point: Carrickgollogan Wood carpark.

Public Transport: There is no direct public transport to Carrickgollogan.

Parking: Please carpool, there is limited parking at Carrickgollogan carpark.

Note – no dogs allowed on this walk.

Active Cities Dublin Parks & Trails Challenge Walk Series

 

Come join DMP and Active Cities Dublin for a series of morning and evening walks during July and August at various Coillte Forests in the Dublin Mountains. The aim of the Parks & Trails Challenge is to encourage people to discover their local parks and trails and also explore parks and trails in the greater Dublin area. There will be two booking options for each hike:

With a free bus from a local Luas stop (see stops listed below in the Dates & Locations section).
Without the bus, participants will make their own way to the walk location.

Wednesday, 06.08.25: Cruagh Wood at 18:30 (bus from Tallaght Luas)
Saturday, 23.08.25: Hell Fire Club at 09:30 (bus from Tallaght Luas)
 

All walks will be led by the Dublin Mountains Partnership Volunteer Rangers. The routes will take in stunning views. Along the way the DMP Volunteer Rangers will share their knowledge of the heritage and geological features of the areas. Please note the routes are on gravel trails.

 

Walk Lengths:

Fairy Castle 5.5km

Tibradden Wood 4km

Cruagh 4km

Hell Fire Club 3.6km

 

Duration: 1 -1.5 hours approx.

Degree of difficulty: Easy to moderate.

Bring: Sturdy footwear, rain jacket, sun hat, warm clothes, drink and snack.

Meeting point: Full details will be provided before each walk.

Sunday, 10 August, DMP Hike: Tibradden to Ballyedmonduff Cairn

Please do not book a slot unless you are certain you can attend.

Our DMP Volunteer Rangers will guide this 16KM hike from Tibradden Wood to Fairy Castle, Ticknock and Ballyedmonduff. The hike will commence from Tibradden Wood. From there, we’ll trace the path of the Dublin Mountains Way, leading us to the historical Tibradden Cairn. Our next stop will be Fairy Castle before making our way to Three Rock and the Ballyedmonduff Cairn. We’ll then navigate back via the Two Rock and returning to Tibradden Wood.

The hike route surfaces include, footpaths, gravel trails and forest floor. On a clear day the views along the route are breathtaking.

 

Important: All participants must have sturdy, waterproof footwear and a rain jacket. You may not be allowed to join the walk without these items. For the full list of what to bring, see below.

 

Date: Sunday, 10th of August at 10:00. 

Duration: 4.5 hours, approximately. 

Distance: 16km approximately, 523m of climb.  

Degree of difficulty: Moderate to strenuous. 

Bring: Sturdy waterproof footwear, rain gear, warm layers, food and snacks, hot drink and water.  

Meeting point: Tibradden Wood at 09:45

Public Transport: There is no direct public transport to Tibradden Forest on Sundays. However, the area is served by the TFI Local Link Bus SD4 on Saturdays. 

 

No Dogs allowed on this hike.

Monday 11th of August 2025 Her Outdoors Sunset Hiking Yogis in Ticknock

Event Description:

Dlr Sports Partnership, DMP Rangers & Purley Yoga are delighted to bring Her Outdoors Hiking Yogis offers a unique and invigorating hiking experience that combines the beauty of nature, the physicality of hiking, and the calming practice of yoga & mindfulness.  The Dublin Mountain Partnership Rangers will guide you through Ticknock where you can connect with the outdoors and yourself. Along the way our experienced yoga teacher Eike will lead you through standing yoga poses and mindfulness exercises, allowing you to find balance and serenity amidst the beautiful scenery. As the hike concludes, you will have the opportunity to watch the sun go down on Ticknock. Join us in embracing the outdoors, elevating your practice, and finding inner peace amidst the beauty of nature. 

 

Meeting Point: Ticknock Map Board (upper Car park)
