Thursday 5th, ‘Ticknock: What’s Going On?’ podcast walk with the DMP Volunteer Rangers. An evening hike to celebrate World Environment Day

Celebrate World Environment Day with Ticknock: What’s Going On? Podcast Walk, created by artists Listen and Breathe. It was commissioned by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council under the Nature and Place Scheme and funded by Creative Ireland. Nature and Place is supported by Coillte and Dublin Mountains Partnership. Follow the journey from the upper carpark at Ticknock Forest to Fairy Castle, guided by a host of local voices connected to the landscape. The podcast is timed to follow a moderate route at an easy pace. Core collaborators Hugh Farrell, Tyler Kieffer, and Kevin McNamara bring you this immersive experience through in-depth interviews.
Participants will download the podcast to their own device in advance and the group will be guided by the DMP Volunteer Rangers. Download it here

Please note that the route is steep at times so is not suitable for those with limited mobility.

Bring: Headphones, sturdy waterproof footwear, rain gear, warm layers, water, and snacks.
Meeting point: Go past Biking.ie to the Trailhead Signs at the Upper Barrier at Ticknock Carpark at 18:15.

Sunday 8th BirdWatch Ireland Early Morning Walk at Bohernabreena

Join us for an early morning event led by Bird Watch Ireland’s South Dublin Branch and supported by the DMP Volunteer Rangers. We'll gather at Rua Red Café in The Square, where a complimentary bus will take us to the upper Bohernabreena Reservoir for a scenic looped walk. After the walk, the bus will return to The Square.
We'll explore the area, listening for the distinctive call of the cuckoo and hoping to catch a glimpse of this elusive bird. During our walk, we are likely to encounter a variety of bird species, including house martins, sand martins, barn swallows, ravens, buzzards, dippers, grey wagtails, and our usual tits and finches. Keep an eye out for the red squirrel, spotted flycatcher, great spotted woodpecker, jay, and Sitka deer also!

Duration: 2 hours approx walking and birdwatching, up to 3 hours including bus journey.

Bring: Sturdy footwear, rain jacket, warm clothes, drink, snack and binoculars if you have them.
Meeting point: Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre beside The Square in Tallaght at 07:15.

Wednesday 11th, evening hike to celebrate Men's Health Week: a joint event with DLR Sports Partnership and the DMP.

Event Description: Lace Up & Step Out for Men’s Health Week! Join dlr Sports Partnership and the DMP Volunteer Rangers for an uplifting Evening Hike on Wednesday, June 11th, as we celebrate Men’s Health Week 2025. This year’s theme is "Shoulder-to-Shoulder: Connecting for Health", encouraging men to walk, talk, and support each other in building healthier lives, one step at a time.
We will meet outside Brady’s Pub in Shankill, at 5:45 PM, heading off at 6:00 PM sharp for a scenic hike along the Dublin Mountains Way. You’ll take in the sights of Rathmichael Wood, the stunning Carrickgollogan summit, and the historic Lead Mines chimney, before looping back via the ancient Fassaroe Cross.
Expect a mix of footpaths, country roads, forest trails, and breathtaking views if the weather plays nice.
Meeting Point: Outside Brady’s Pub, Shankill

Friday 13th June, at 11:00 Rathmichael Hillfort, Dublin Mountains Community Archaeology Project Guided Tour to celebrate European Days of Archaeology at Rathmichael Wood, supported by the DMP Volunteer Rangers.

Join us for European Archaeology Days 2025 for a guided tour of the Rathmichael hillfort. The prominent prehistoric enclosure serves as a significant focal point within the Dublin Mountains landscape. Rathmichael boasts a wealth of sites and monuments and we will discuss the archaeological significance of this cultural landscape.
Dublin Mountains Community Archaeology is an initiative of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, South Dublin County Council and the Dublin Mountains Partnership with support from the Heritage Council and managed by Archaeology and Built Heritage Ltd. and Abarta Heritage.

Friday, 20th June, DMP Summer Solstice Sunrise Hike from Tibradden

Join the DMP Volunteer Rangers who will lead a sunrise hike to mark the Summer Solstice.
**Participants will meet at 11:55pm on Friday night, the 20th and hike through the night until 6:30am on Saturday, the 21st**
Please do not book a slot unless you are certain you can attend.
The hike will commence from Tibradden Forest. From there, we’ll trace the path of the Dublin Mountains Way, leading us to the historical Tibradden Cairn. Our next stop will be Fairy Castle before making our way to the Three Rock and the Ballyedmonduff Cairn. Following this, we’ll navigate back via the Two Rock, aiming to reach Fairy Castle just in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise over Dublin Bay.
Our return journey will bring us back to Tibradden, with an estimated arrival time of 6:30 am. This promises to be an unforgettable experience.
The hike route surfaces include, footpaths, gravel trails and forest floor. On a clear day the views along the route are breathtaking.
Date: Friday night, the 20th at 11:55PM.
Duration: 6.5 hours, approximately.
Distance: 16km approximately, 523m of climb.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate to strenuous.
Bring: Sturdy waterproof footwear, rain gear, warm layers, torch, lots of food and snacks, hot drink and water.
Meeting point: Tibradden Forest at 11:55PM on Friday night.
Public Transport: no direct public transport at this time of the day

Saturday 21st June, a Summer Solstice Evening Hike with Active South Dublin and the DMP Volunteer Rangers

Active South Dublin in partnership with Dublin Mountains Partnership have organised this FREE community walk to celebrate the Summer Solstice in the Beautiful Hellfire Club Forest in the Dublin Mountains.
The walk will be led by trained and qualified walk leaders and volunteer guides.
All abilities are welcomed and will be catered for.
This is a forest hill walk on marked trail in a Coillte Forest in the Dublin Mountains.
Irish Weather can be unpredictable and changeable so please ensure that you wear Appropriate Hill Walking Clothing and Footwear.
Please bring water & energy snacks. We encourage the use of reusable water bottles
The meeting point is the Hellfire Club Forest Car Park at 7pm. Car Pooling is advised.
