Upcoming Events with the DMP Volunteer Rangers

Saturday, May 31st- Aware Walk # 2 at Bohernabreena

Join us for the second installment of our 4-part public transport-friendly walk series, held on the last Saturday of each month from April - July. Whether you choose to participate in one or all of the walks, feel free to bring along a friend or two or family members.

We'll gather at Rua Red Café in The Square, where a complimentary bus will take us to the upper gate at Bohernabreena Reservoir for a scenic looped walk. After the walk, the bus will return to The Square.

These walks are for anyone living with depression, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed. They offer a simple, supportive way to connect with others and experience the healing effects of nature. Being outdoors and moving—even at a slow pace—can help lift your mood, ease stress, and support your mental wellbeing.

This walk will be led by experienced DMP Volunteer Rangers and supported by Aware Volunteers.

      

Date: Saturday, the 31st of May at 10:30.

Length: 4-5km approx.

Duration: Walk 1-1.5 hours approx. Full event including bus journeys, 2.5 hours approx.

Degree of difficulty: Easy.

Bring: Sturdy footwear, rain jacket, warm clothes, drink and snack.

Meeting point: Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre beside The Square in Tallaght at 10:15.

Public Transport: Tallaght is served by LUAS Red Line and Dublin Bus. See link to Transport for Ireland Journey Planner for route suggestions.

   

Note – no dogs allowed on this walk.

Thursday 5th  ‘Ticknock: What’s Going On?’ podcast walk with the DMP Volunteer Rangers. An evening hike to celebrate World Environment Day

Celebrate World Environment Day with Ticknock: What’s Going On? Podcast Walk, created by artists Listen and Breathe. It was commissioned by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council under the Nature and Place Scheme and funded by Creative Ireland. Nature and Place is supported by Coillte and Dublin Mountains Partnership. Follow the journey from the upper carpark at Ticknock Forest to Fairy Castle, guided by a host of local voices connected to the landscape. The podcast is timed to follow a moderate route at an easy pace.  Core collaborators Hugh Farrell, Tyler Kieffer, and Kevin McNamara bring you this immersive experience through in-depth interviews.


Participants will download the podcast to their own device in advance and the group will be guided by the DMP Volunteer Rangers. Download it here

Please note that the route is steep at times so is not suitable for those with limited mobility.

Duration: 1.5 hours, approximately.

Bring: Headphones, sturdy waterproof footwear, rain gear, warm layers, water, and snacks.

Meeting point: Go past Biking.ie to the Trailhead Signs at the Upper Barrier at Ticknock Carpark at 18:15.

Sunday 8th  BirdWatch Ireland Early Morning Walk at Bohernabreena

 

Booking is via Eventbrite

 

Join us for an early morning event led by Bird Watch Ireland’s South Dublin Branch and supported by the DMP Volunteer Rangers. We'll gather at Rua Red Café in The Square, where a complimentary bus will take us to the upper Bohernabreena Reservoir for a scenic looped walk. After the walk, the bus will return to The Square.

 

We'll explore the area, listening for the distinctive call of the cuckoo and hoping to catch a glimpse of this elusive bird. During our walk, we are likely to encounter a variety of bird species, including house martins, sand martins, barn swallows, ravens, buzzards, dippers, grey wagtails, and our usual tits and finches. Keep an eye out for the red squirrel, spotted flycatcher, great spotted woodpecker, jay, and Sitka deer also!

Meeting point: Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre beside The Square in Tallaght at 07:15.

Wednesday 11th, evening hike to celebrate Men's Health Week: a joint event with DLR Sports Partnership and the DMP. 

  

Friday 13th : an event to celebrate European Days of Archaeology at Rathmichael Wood part of the Dublin Mountains Community Archaeology Project, supported by the DMP Volunteer Rangers.

 

Saturday 21st : a Summer Solstice Hike with the DMP Volunteer Rangers.
