Free Guided Walks & Hikes September 2019

DLR CoCo - SUMMER OF HERITAGE - EVENTS

As part of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s Summer of Heritage programme the DMP are hosting walks guided by DMP Volunteer Rangers on July Sundays July 7th and 21st, August 4th and 18th and September 1st.  The walks start at 11:00 from Barnaslingan car-park. Sunday 1st September, Barnaslingan & Carrickgollogan Walk,

DLR Summer of Heritage Event

Description: This guided walk will take in the Scalp view-point, the Lead Mines Chimney and Carrickgollogan summit.  It is a moderate walk on forest roads and trails, a small section of County road and a gravel track leading to Carrickgollogan summit. 

 

Date: Sunday 1st  August at 11:00.

Duration: 2 hours.

Degree of difficulty: Moderate. 

Bring:  walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, water and a snack.

Saturday 7th September, Orienteering for Beginners – Carrickgollogan


Pre-booking required, reference for booking ‘Orienteering for beginners’

Description: A free introduction to orienteering set in Coillte’s Carrickgollogan forest utilising the new permanent orienteering course. Suitable for adults and children of 10 years of age and upwards.
Date: Saturday 7th September at 12:00.
Duration: 3 hours.
Distance: 2-4 km approximately
Degree of difficulty: moderate.
Bring: Walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, water and a snack.
Meeting point: Carrickgollogan car-park at 11:45.

Sunday 8th September, Kilmashogue - Fairy Castle - Ticknock Loop, dog friendly

Description: Kilmashogue - Fairy Castle - Ticknock Loop

[Pre-booking required, reference for booking Kilmashogue – Ticknock Loop Walk]

Description: A moderate looped walk from Kilmashogue car-park via the Wicklow Way (WW) to where it joins the Dublin Mountains Way (DMW), from there the route follows the DMW to Fairy Castle (537m). Note the 1st 4km is a steady up-hill climb and requires a moderate level of fitness. From Fairy Castle the route continues on the DMW until the masts where it loops back downhill towards Kilmashogue where it re-joins the Wicklow Way.

While this walk is dog friendly you don’t need a dog to join. Dogs will be required to be on leashes for the full duration of the walk. People bringing dogs on the walk are reminded to carry bags to pick up any doggy doo and bring back home for disposal.

Saturday 21st September, Photography Walk in Hellfire Club and Massy’s Estate

Pre-booking required, reference for booking Hellfire Club Photography walk
Description: A looped guided photography walk for beginners, amateurs and professionals, starting at Hellfire Club car-park. Wrap up well as we will be stopping along the way to capture both nature and heritage images. This is a great opportunities to learn basic techniques and camera settings on your digital camera with other photography enthusiasts.
Date: Saturday 21st September at 10:00
Duration: 2 to 3 hours
Distance: 2-4km
Bring: good walking boots, raingear, warm clothes, lunch, water, snacks. Camera with fully charged batteries. Tripod if you have one but not essential.
