July Events with the DMP Volunteer Rangers

DLR Summer of Heritage Walk Series at Carrickgollogan Wood
Come join us for a series of morning and evening walks during July and August at Coillte's Carrickgollogan Wood.

Walk Dates:

July 30th at 11AM,
August 13th at 6PM,
August 27th at 11AM.
Please don't book unless you are certain you can attend.
A gently paced walk following the Lead Mines Way at Coillte’s Carrickgollogan Wood led by the Dublin Mountains Partnership Volunteer Rangers. The route will also take in the summit of Carrickgollogan from where, on a clear day, there is a 360o view. Along the way the DMP Volunteer Rangers will share their knowledge of the heritage and geological features of the site, which have been wonderfully captured in a dlr arts Nature and Place Commission Skywalkers by Méadhbh O’Connor. The Volunteer Rangers will also talk about Coillte’s Dublin Mountains Makeover project.
Please note the route is on gravel trails.
Length: 2.5 km approx.
Duration: Walk 1.5 to 1.75 hours approx.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate.
Bring: Sturdy footwear, rain jacket, sun hat, warm clothes, drink and snack.
Meeting point: Carrickgollogan Wood carpark.
Public Transport: There is no direct public transport to Carrickgollogan.
Parking: Please carpool, there is limited parking at Carrickgollogan carpark.
Note – no dogs allowed on this walk.

Active Cities Dublin Parks & Trails Challenge Walk Series
Come join DMP and Active Cities Dublin for a series of morning and evening walks during July and August at various Coillte Forests in the Dublin Mountains. The aim of the Parks & Trails Challenge is to encourage people to discover their local parks and trails and also explore parks and trails in the greater Dublin area. There will be two booking options for each hike:
With a free bus from a local Luas stop (see stops listed below in the Dates & Locations section).
Without the bus, participants will make their own way to the walk location.

Saturday, 23.08.25: Hell Fire Club at 09:30 (bus from Tallaght Luas)
All walks will be led by the Dublin Mountains Partnership Volunteer Rangers. The routes will take in stunning views. Along the way the DMP Volunteer Rangers will share their knowledge of the heritage and geological features of the areas. Please note the routes are on gravel trails.

Wednesday 16th July Intro to Orienteering Evening Event at Tibradden Forest

The DMP Volunteer Rangers will be leading an introduction to orienteering event using a new permanent orienteering course that was formally opened at Tibradden Wood last year. This course is a joint initiative of 3ROC Orienteering Club, the DMP, Coillte and Active Cities Dublin.
This event is suitable for individuals aged 11 years upwards, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Date: Wednesday, the 16th of July at 18:15.
Duration: 3 hours approximately.
Distance: 2-3km approximately.
Degree of difficulty: Easy to moderate.
Bring: Sturdy waterproof footwear, raingear, warm clothes, water, and food.
Meeting point: Tibradden Forest at 18:00
Public Transport: Although there is no direct public transport midweek, Tibradden is served by Local Link Bus SD4 on Saturdays.

Saturday July 19th, Hidden Gems: Laughanstown Public Transport Only Hike

Join us for a unique guided walk led by DMP Volunteer Rangers. We’ll explore a peaceful trail that feels miles away from modern life, even though it’s nestled close to residential areas. Along the way, we’ll visit two ancient Celtic crosses and two historic churches, including the old Rathmichael Church, its round tower, and graveyard.
The route follows pedestrian tracks with some sections traversing former narrow roads, now transformed into trails and flanked by beautiful hedgerows.
This walk is a hidden gem that offers something for everyone. The route surfaces include road, footpaths, gravel trails and forest floor. Please note that there is no parking at the start location.
Date: Saturday, 19th of July at 10:30
Duration: 2 hours, approximately.
Distance: 7km approximately, 150m of climb.
Degree of difficulty: Easy.
Bring: Sturdy waterproof footwear, rain jacket, warm layers, sun hat, water, and food.
Meeting point: Laughanstown LUAS Stop at 10:15.
Public Transport: Green LUAS Line. See TFI’s Journey Planner. Please note that there is no parking available at this location. Therefore, you must use the LUAS or other public transport to get here.

Saturday, 26 July Aware Wellness Walk #4: Hell Fire Club

Join us for the last walk in our 4-part public transport-friendly walk series. These walks are for anyone living with depression, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed and their family and friends. They offer a simple, supportive way to connect with others and experience the healing effects of nature. Being outdoors and moving—even at a slow pace—can help lift your mood, ease stress, and support your mental wellbeing. Feel free to bring along a friend or two or family members.
A gently paced 4 km hike led by experienced DMP Volunteer Rangers who will talk about the history of the Hell Fire Club. On a clear morning there will be stunning views across the city and Dublin Bay.
This is a moderate hike due to trail surfaces and some inclines.
A free bus will transport participants from The Square and return. Alternatively, meet at the walk location.
There are two booking options:
Meet at Rua Red Café in The Square at 09:15, where a complimentary bus will take you to Hell Fire Club. After the walk, the bus will return to The Square.
Or
Meet at Hell Fire Club at 09:45.
Date: Saturday, 26th of July.
Duration: 1.5 hours hiking, 2.5 hours including bus journey, approximately.
Distance: 4km approximately.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate.
Bring: Sturdy footwear, rain jacket, warm clothes, sun hat, drink and snack.
Meeting points: Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre beside The Square in Tallaght at 09:15 to get the bus
or
Hell Fire Club at 09:45 if driving direct to walk location.
Public Transport: Tallaght is served by LUAS Red Line and Dublin Bus. Hell Fire Club is served by Local Link Bus SD4 (check times first). See link to Transport for Ireland Journey Planner for route suggestions.
